T-MAX Synthetic Winch Rope 6,000 lbs, 7.5 mm x 15 m

There are many reasons to use a synthetic plastic rope instead of a steel cable on a winch. Plastic ropes are usually made from Dyneema®, a synthetic chemical fiber based on polyethylene. For the same diameter, a plastic rope has only 1/7 of the weight of a steel cable. It is even so light that it floats on water. Unlike wire ropes, plastic ropes do not twist. There are no "kinks" and the ropes do not buckle. This makes handling much easier. With wire ropes, individual broken and protruding wires quickly lead to unpleasant injuries if the rope is handled without sturdy gloves, e.g. when spooling. If a steel cable breaks due to overload or damage, the whipping of the two rope ends is extremely dangerous and can lead to injuries to people standing too close to the cable or damage to the vehicle. Therefore, a dampener should always be placed on steel cables. If a plastic rope breaks, there is also a rope recoil, but this is comparatively much less dangerous. Dyneema fibers are very durable, have high resistance to abrasion, moisture, UV rays, and chemicals such as oils and greases. Ropes made of Dyneema have a very low elongation of 0.5 to 2%. All T-MAX plastic ropes are made from Dyneema SK-75 fibers. To ensure consistently high quality, T-MAX ropes are produced in-house on stranding machines from the Spanish manufacturer Twistechnology®. The winch ropes are specially coated to prevent slipping on the winch drum and thus transfer maximum force, as well as to prevent the rope from tearing off the drum, even if only a few turns are left on the drum. With many winches, the rope brake is located inside the drum and can therefore heat up significantly during extreme use. The melting point of Dyneema, compared to a steel cable, is a low 144 to 152 °C. T-MAX therefore equips all winch ropes with a special heat protection coating. In addition, the first meters of the winch ropes, which lie directly on the drum, are provided with a protective sleeve. This effectively prevents damage. Since many users do not fully retract the winch ropes, but rather hook the hook to the bottom of the vehicle or to shackles on the bumper, the beginning of the winch ropes is also provided with a protective sleeve to prevent damage. The ropes are equipped with a special stainless steel thimble and a permanently installed hook with a pawl. The forged hook has a higher breaking load than the rope. For fastening to the drum, the ropes are provided with a tab. In English, plastic winch ropes are called Synthetic Rope. Precautions To avoid damage to a plastic rope, it must under no circumstances be pulled over rocks or rough surfaces under load. If this is necessary, suitable chafing protection must be placed underneath. Plastic ropes must not be run around sharp corners. Jerky loads must be avoided as they can lead to exceeding the breaking load. Fairleads A plastic rope must not be used with a roller fairlead, but requires an aluminum fairlead. The reason for this is that plastic ropes are very flexible and could therefore get into the corners between two rollers under unfavorable circumstances and be damaged. When converting a winch to a plastic rope, the fairlead must therefore also be replaced. The mounting holes of roller fairleads and aluminum fairleads are identical, so replacement is unproblematic. The aluminum fairlead leads to an additional weight saving as a welcome side effect.
